Words in Action Contest Award Recipients

The Black History Month Words in Action Contest was initiated by the Human Rights and Diversity Commission and began in 2021 as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Words in Action Contest.

Beginning in 2023, the contest was expanded to celebrate the powerful speeches and writings of all Black American civil rights leaders, in addition to Dr. King.

Youth 18 and younger who live or go to school in Eden Prairie are asked to select quotes and reflect on the importance of those words, including ideas for how they can carry the legacies of those civil rights leaders forward in our community through writing, art or audio/video.
