Home MenuPrivate Stormwater Facilities Inspection and Maintenance Requirements
The City of Eden Prairie requires owners of private stormwater facilities – such as detention ponds, catch basins, stormwater pipes and bioretention basins – to conduct regular inspections and maintenance to ensure the facilities are working properly.
Inspections must be completed annually the first two years after construction, then every five years thereafter. Maintenance must be conducted as necessary.
Inspection and Maintenance Requirements
Private stormwater facilities include items such as stormwater ponds, catch basins, stormwater pipes and bioretention basins that are not owned by the City or another public entity such as MnDOT or Hennepin County. The City regulates inspection and maintenance of these facilities as part of its stormwater permit (NPDES Phase II MS4 permit).
In June 2023, the City began requiring owners of newly installed private stormwater facilities to sign an Inspection and Maintenance Agreement [PDF]. This agreement should be recorded against the property containing the stormwater facilities.
Inspection and Maintenance Checklists
Use the Private Stormwater Inspection Checklist [PDF] to complete the required inspection. Items found to require maintenance must be repaired and documented using the Private Stormwater Maintenance Checklist [PDF].
Submit Documentation
Submit all completed inspection and maintenance documentation, including completed checklists and photos, to Water Resources Coordinator Lori Haak.
