Uprooter Loan Program

Borrow an Uprooter or Uprooter Mini from the City to get rid of buckthorn or honeysuckle on your property.

Uprooter tools are specifically designed to pull woody stems and roots as small as 1/8” in diameter out of the ground. They reduce the need for herbicides and decrease soil disturbance.

Reserving an Uprooter tool is available to Eden Prairie residents only, Monday through Thursday, or Thursday through Monday.

Reservation Process

Email Uprooter@edenprairie.org to specify the dates you would like to reserve either the Uprooter or Uprooter Mini
A City staff member will contact you to confirm your reservation and arrange a time for pick-up from the City's Maintenance Facility at 15150 Technology Drive
You will be asked to sign a release form and make a cash or check deposit of $250 (Uprooter) or $160 (Uprooter Mini) when picking up the tool

Credit cards are not accepted; your check will not be cashed unless the Uprooter is not returned, or is damaged beyond normal wear and tear.

All reservations are first-come, first-served. One Uprooter may be reserved per household.

Should I reserve the Uprooter or the Uprooter Mini?

The Uprooter weighs approximately 15 pounds and is 52 inches tall. It can pull stems as small as an 1/8 inch in diameter up to 2.25 inches in diameter. It has a locking feature that keeps the jaws open when placing around a stem.

The Uprooter Mini is approximately half the weight and height of the Uprooter and can pull stems as large as 1.125 inches in diameter. The mini works great for steep terrain and smaller plants, and is easier to use for adults, children and individuals with limited mobility. It does not include a jaw-locking mechanism.
