The lead agency is the Metropolitan Council, and the Southwest LRT Project Office manages the project, addresses public comments and provides project updates.
When the Green Line Extension opens, it will connect major activity centers and be part of an integrated system of transitways, including connections to the METRO Blue Line, the Northstar Commuter Rail line and many bus routes.
The project is the largest infrastructure project in the state’s history, funded by the Metropolitan Council and project partners through a mix of federal, state and local sources.
Construction work on the Green Line Extension is well underway, with the bulk of heavy construction in Eden Prairie nearly completed. Stay informed about the latest construction information and sign up for project updates, or follow the project on X @GreenLineExtMN.
Service on the Green Line Extension is projected to begin in 2027.
Beyond the Rails
Southwest LRT Community Works was created by Hennepin County in 2009 to develop partnerships that would catalyze transit-oriented development along the corridor, connect communities to LRT stations and create welcoming spaces around LRT stations. This effort supports LRT design and construction work by focusing “beyond the rails,” including developing detailed plans for station area neighborhoods near proposed LRT stations.
Southwest LRT PLACES
PLACES is a collaborative initiative that aims to establish the Southwest LRT corridor as a renowned public art destination marked by exciting art installations and placemaking projects that represent the vibrant cultures and communities the Southwest LRT line will connect.
