River Rapids mural at Staring Lake Park
River Rapids mural at Staring Lake Park

River Rapids has turned part of the walking path around Staring Lake into the Mighty Mississippi. This ground mural is designed so viewers can imagine themselves in the ecosystem and interact with it. Along the river there are rocks, white water, local vegetation, fish, bugs and mammals.

It starts with a bog then flows into a beach, shallow water, then deeper water and finally, the rapids. The water collects to form a waterfall at the top of the playground’s slide so children can picture themselves sliding down on water.

This mural originated as a part of the Rotating Art Series and is now a permanent piece.
