Eden Prairie Public Art Project

The City of Eden Prairie, in coordination with Greco Properties and Eagle Ridge Partners, is excited to invite artists to submit applications to be considered for a public art project as part of a new luxury suburban apartment development.

The project is situated along a significant natural environment area featuring wetlands and walking trails, and offers a variety of outdoor amenities along with a trail connection to the METRO Green Line Extension Golden Triangle Station. The art could be located at several key locations on the site, including near the property entrance, at the main plaza, at areas along the trail, or incorporated with the trail retaining wall. The art is intended to enhance the user experience and reflect site characteristics.

Project Details

Project

We are seeking innovative public artists with fabrication experience to submit their qualifications. The public art piece should be designed to offer visual impact and serve as a unique placemaking element that connects the community and enhances the site. All finished artwork should have a consistent design theme and be constructed to withstand Minnesota weather extremes, requiring minimal maintenance by the City. Any pre-existing concrete walkways must remain undisturbed.

Budget

A budget of $32,500 must cover all costs, including but not limited to artist fees, design, engineering, testing and/or fabrication, permitting, installation, travel, public meeting presentations (as necessary) and administration.

Timeline

April 5: First-round application submission deadline

April 12: First-round application decisions; second-round finalists notified

May 17: Second-round application project proposal deadline

May 30: Second-round application decision; finalist notified. Finalist begins planning and implementation with developer and City.

Selection Process

A selection committee reviews first-round applicants and chooses several artists to move on as second-round finalists based on:

Experience working with large projects and/or municipal development
Ability to complete the project based on references and work samples
Artistic quality

Second-round finalists are commissioned to create a detailed project proposal specific to the site location, dimensions and function. The selection committee reviews proposals and selects a finalist to coordinate with the City and execute the project in late fall 2024.

Work Samples

Up to 10 work samples completed within the past 10 years.

Digital images must be sized at 72 ppi resolution at 1920 pixels on longest edge, saved as .jpg file format; video files must be sized at 1024x768 ppi and saved as a .mov or .wmv file.

Naming convention: LastName_FirstName_[01, 02, 03, etc.]

Video

If video is needed to show additional detail, scale or scope, artists may submit up to three digital video files (2-minute limit per video) to support one or more work samples.

Video files must be sized at 1024x768 ppi and saved as a .mov or .wmv file. Do not submit links. Submit video files matching the naming convention of the work sample it is connected to.

Do not send required submission materials in one document. Each section should have its own file labeled as directed.

Submissions that do not follow the guidelines above will not be considered.
Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
