21st Century Policing Report Cover imageIn December 2014 President Obama created the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.

The 11 members of the Task Force included academics, law enforcement personnel and civil rights activists. In May 2015 the Task Force released its Final Report [PDF] which included recommendations in six key areas:

  • Building Trust and Community
  • Policy and Oversight
  • Technology and Social Media
  • Community Policing and Crime Reduction
  • Training and Education
  • Officer Wellness and Safety

In 2016-17, the Eden Prairie Police Department reviewed the report to determine which of the recommendations the department had met already and which recommendations the department did not meet. The results were updated in 2020. We continue to review the document, and utilize it as we evolve as a department. We weigh operational changes utilizing the study as a guiding tool.

Six Pillars

The task force recommended action items related to six topic areas. Click each pillar below to explore the recommendations and learn about how the Eden Prairie Police Department works to continually improve its service to the community through 21st Century Policing.
