Raymond Mallo was born in Barron County, Wis. in 1887.
On May 27, 1918, Ray and his brother Sid were drafted into the Army to fight in World War I. Ray operated a machine gun in Verdun, France. This was in the Alsace-Lorraine region, within 75 miles of Gundershoffen, where 200 years earlier, his ancestors had lived.
On March 1, 1919, Ray died of influenza at the age of 29, while on the ship coming home.
