Benton J. Hill was born in Eden Prairie on Nov. 26, 1917, the son of John H. and Pearl Hill. His siblings were Wendell and Eleanor.

Benton graduated from Eden Prairie in 1936 and then entered the Marine Air Corps for World War II.

He went missing in action on Jan. 24, 1943, when his plane was shot down near Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.
