National Council on Aging

The National Council on Aging (NCOA) created Resources and Support for Older Adults Living Alone: A Comprehensive Guide, which includes practical tips and resource recommendations from geriatric health experts and advocates, such as:

• PACE programs, which use Medicare and Medicaid to help older adults get nursing home-level care and medications
• Benefits such as the Aid and Attendance pension that help veterans offset the costs of long-term care
• NCOA’s BenefitsCheckUp tool which helps older adults identify their potential eligibility for benefits and programs

Maintaining independence as you grow older can be challenging. The Metro Area Agency on Aging (MAAA) delivers Senior LinkAge Line services in partnership with the Minnesota Board on Aging, connecting you with transportation, chore help, meals, housing options, legal services and more. Senior Community Services is a nonprofit organization with a mission to innovate and deliver services that meet the changing needs of older adults and their caregivers.

The HOME program provides help with indoor and outdoor chores like housekeeping, minor home repairs, painting projects, lawn mowing and snow removal. CareNextion.org is a free, online tool (and smartphone app) that helps caregivers coordinate and connect with others to support their older adult loved one. Visit the site to learn more and create a care team.

Senior Emergency Repair Program

Home improvement grants are available for Eden Prairie homeowners 60 years or older who need emergency home repairs. Residents may be eligible for loans that are forgiven after three years. To qualify for this grant, applicants must own and live in their Eden Prairie home, meet household income limits and have an eligible emergency repair. Eligible repairs include water heaters, furnaces and central air conditioners, and accessibility upgrades such as grab bars and handrails. Meals on Wheels

Get nutritionally balanced, tasty meals delivered weekdays around noon. Deliveries may be short- or long-term. No limitations apply. Cost is $5 per meal or less if you qualify for a Hennepin County waiver. Call 952-835-1665 or email Meals on Wheels for more information.
