Staring Lake Observatory

Staring Lake Observatory

The Outdoor Center is home to one of the largest telescopes in Minnesota!

The powerful 16-inch commercial telescope made by Meade (LX200) is computer-operated and guided by GPS satellites for pinpoint accuracy. It is mounted to an equatorial mount that provides amazing stability for clear and sharp looks at all celestial objects.

The telescope came from an extremely generous contribution from Doug and Carolyn Kohrs.

Attend an Upcoming Class

The City offers two to three astronomy programs at the observatory for the general public every month. Current Star Watch programs are listed at edenprairie.org/Register.

The Staring Lake Observatory is not open to the public except for scheduled programs and events. However, you can request to book a custom program with an astronomer for your group (adult, children, homeschool, scouts, company outing, etc.) by using the "Contact Us" button at the top of the page.
