Protecting and Serving in the Cold

Sun dog Jan 2024

As we all know, it has been COLD this past week here in Eden Prairie!

So what does the police department do differently when the temperature and wind chill are below zero? While we are always proactive while on patrol, when it’s brutally cold out, we take extra care to look for stranded motorists on the side of the road or in ditches. Since last Thursday, we’ve had 32 motorist assist calls. If your car stalls, stay with your car, call for help and let your car be seen. Put bright markers on the exterior of the car and keep the interior dome light on.

We also make sure that our critical equipment stays warm including mobile computers in squad cars, police radios, AEDs and naloxone. We also want to keep our officers warm! They are provided with multiple layers including winter hats.

Stay warm Eden Prairie! Just 61 days until Spring!
