The planned reconfiguration of the SouthWest Station bus terminal combines LRT with the existing SouthWest Transit bus service and expands the park-and-ride facility, making this station a key hub for travelers to and from downtown Minneapolis. Shops and restaurants are located around the station. The surrounding area also includes Purgatory Creek Park.

The shared platform area of SouthWest Station will allow easy transfers between SouthWest Transit buses and METRO Green Line Extension trains.

The Town Center area of Eden Prairie includes the Eden Prairie Center mall, located just east of the station area, and multi-family residential housing located to the south and east of the station along Singletree Lane.

The Golden Triangle area is a major regional employment center. Bounded by Hwy. 169 to the east, Hwy. 212 to the west and Interstate 494 to the south, the area has nearly 10-million square feet of industrial and office space. More than 20,000 people travel into and out of the greater Golden Triangle area every day.

The design of Golden Triangle Station will make it a recognizable gateway to the busy Golden Triangle area. The station will feature a single center platform serving both eastbound and westbound trains, and the platform will be easily accessible from the adjacent park-and-ride lot and West 70th Street.

The planned City West Station is adjacent to the corporate campus of Optum, a division of UnitedHealth Group. Other commercial and residential developments are also located nearby.
