 West 70th Project Map

The construction of the West 70th Street extension was substantially completed in the fall 2015. The project included extending the existing roadway west approximately 1200 feet to Flying Cloud Drive, stormwater improvements, enhanced streetscaping design, and pedestrian and bicycle improvements through the construction of sidewalks and bike lanes. With its completion, the project provides an important roadway connection between Flying Cloud Drive and Shady Oak Road, additional access to area businesses and multi-modal access to the proposed Southwest LRT Golden Triangle Station.

The West 70th Street extension was the first phase of West 70th Street improvement project. The second phase, which is the reconstruction of the eastern segment of the roadway, will be coordinated with Southwest LRT construction to extend the multi-modal improvements on West 70th Street from the proposed Golden Triangle LRT Station east to Shady Oak Road. These improvements are expected to occur in either 2017 or 2018

The Hennepin County Housing and Redevelopment Authority is providing a $470,000 transit-oriented development grant award to the project to support the creation of the new complete street that will connect the future Golden Triangle with Shady Oak Road and Flying Cloud Drive.
