LEARN TO SKATE USA PROGRAM
The Eden Prairie Community Center now offers the Learn to Skate USA program. This program is endorsed by USA Hockey, U.S. Figure Skating, U.S. Speedskating and Special Olympics. Learn to Skate USA makes skating fun and safe while building solid skill progression and growing self-esteem.

If your child is age 6 or younger, with no skating experience, please register for Snowplow Sam 1. If your child is age 7 or older and has no skating experience, please register for Basic 1. There are no refunds, pro-rations or makeups for missed classes. If you are new to the program or are unsure of what level to register for, please contact the Learn to Skate lead at 952-949-8470, ext. 7931.

SNOWPLOW SAM – DISCOVER, LEARN AND PLAY!

These levels allow skaters to build confidence while learning to skate. The classes are designed to help children ages 6 and younger develop the ABCs of movement – Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed.

Snowplow Sam 1 — Skaters ages 3–6 with no prior skating experience
Learn to stand, fall and move on the ice. No hockey skates please; figure/recreational skates or rentals only.

Snowplow Sam 2 — Skaters ages 3–6
Must have successfully completed Snowplow Sam 1. Gliding and beginning backward skating. No hockey skates please.

Snowplow Sam 3 — Skaters ages 3–6
Must have successfully completed Snowplow Sam 2. Refinement of skills.

BASIC SKILLS FUNDAMENTALS
Basic Skills teaches the FUNdamentals of ice skating in order to provide a strong foundation. Upon completion, skaters can confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating.

Basic 1 — Skaters age 7 and older who have never skated before
Learn to stand and move on the ice. No hockey skates please.

Basic 2 — Skaters age 7 and older with previous skating experience but no previous formal instruction
Skaters who successfully completed Snowplow Sam 3. Skaters who have successfully completed Basic 1. Basic skating skills are taught for the figure skater or hockey player.

Basic 3 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 2
Stroking and backward skating are taught at this level.

Basic 4 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 3
Edges and forward crossovers are taught at this level.

Basic 5 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 4
Backward crossover and turns are taught at this level.

Basic 6 — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 5
Turns, beginning spins and spirals are taught at this level.

FREE SKATE
While focusing on quality and mastery of skills, figure skaters learn a variety of spins, jumps and transitions.

Pre-free Skate — For skaters who have successfully completed Basic 6
Beginning edges, footwork, spins and jumps are taught.

Free Skate 1 (FS1) — For skaters who have successfully completed Pre-free Skate

Free Skate 2 (FS2) — For skaters who have successfully completed FS1

Free Skate 3 (FS3) For skaters who have successfully completed FS2

Free Skate 4 (FS4) — For skaters who have successfully completed FS3

Free Skate 5 (FS5) — For skaters who have successfully completed FS4

Free Skate 6 (FS6) — For skaters who have successfully completes FS5

SPECIALTY CLASSES
Edge Class —
A stroking program designed to improve edge technique and skating quality
Skaters enrolled in Pre-free Skate through Free Skate 6 are encouraged to take this in addition to their regular class.

Beginner Hockey — For skaters who have passed Basic 2 and are interested in playing hockey
