Pleasant Hill Cemetery (12390 Pioneer Trail) is owned and maintained by the City of Eden Prairie. Residents and non-residents are eligible for interment. The fee for the purchase of a grave lot is set annually by the City Council.

The cemetery was established in 1885 when an area north of the Eden Prairie Presbyterian Church was platted as a cemetery. The church building was removed in 1966 and Section II was added to the cemetery. Additional cemetery land (Section III) was purchased from a land developer in 1971. Ownership of the cemetery was transferred from the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association to the City of Eden Prairie in 1987.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

  • No markers or monuments may be placed in the cemetery without the approval of the City.
  • Trees, shrubs, vines or fences may not be installed by a private party on cemetery grounds.
  • All landscaping, grading and seeding will be done by the City of Eden Prairie or its designated contractors.
The following are prohibited on cemetery grounds:
  • Food or refreshments
  • Loud or boisterous talking or music
  • Placing signs or notices of any kind
  • Unleashed dogs

INTERMENT
Caskets must be enclosed in a concrete burial vault or concrete grave liner. An urn vault is optional.

Grave Lot Specifications

The number and combinations permitted to be buried in any grave are:

  • One adult vault
  • Two urns
  • One adult or one child vault and one urn
  • One adult and one child in one vault
  • Two infants in one vault
MARKERS
Every grave marker must be placed in the space reserved as shown on the grave plot or as directed by the City. All markers in Section III must be flush/ flat style markers. Upright markers are permitted in Sections I and II with City permission.

Marker Size Limitations
  • Single Marker: 12 inches by 24 inches
  • Double Marker: 12 inches by 40 inches
  • Marker Thickness: 4 inches
A 4-inch, unadorned mowing border of approved materials is encouraged.

PLANTS AND DECORATIONS
Flowers and plants may be placed in a single, durable and erect stand. Only one flower/plant stand per lot is allowed. Any artificial flowers, plants, wreaths or other adornments are subject to removal with the exception of 30 days following interment, or if placed in a single durable and erect flower/plant stand.

Additional live or potted plants are allowed on special dates such as religious holidays, Memorial Day, birthdays or anniversaries. They can be displayed for five days, after which they will be removed.

The City is not responsible for damage, destruction or loss of flowers, plants or flower/plant stands. The City will remove unused stands that are not maintained or utilized for an extended period of time. In addition, anything that interferes with the routine maintenance of the cemetery will be subject to immediate removal. This includes: glass planters, balloons, knick knacks, stuffed animals, wind chimes and solar lights.
